Welcome to the Boreal Forest. I’m Marti, the mascot of the Western Newfoundland Model Forest Partnership.  I am a Newfoundland marten — one of about 300 Newfoundland marten left on the island. I’m a rare animal. You’ll only find me in the forests of Newfoundland because I’m part of a genetically distinct population of the American marten family. That makes me a true blue Newfoundlander!

A lot of people are working hard to help Newfoundland marten — researchers are studying where and how we live, and educators are sharing our story with young people to remind them of how important Newfoundland marten are.
