Objective
To characterize the current situation in Newfoundland and Labrador with respect
to forest harvesting in protected water supplies and to provide recommendations
for an approach that can help ensure a symbiotic relationship between forest
managers and municipalities.
Description
Forest Harvesting in protected water supply areas is an issue for many municipalities
in Newfoundland and Labrador. Forest companies are looking to protected water
supply areas to provide them with much needed fiber, while municipalities have
concerns over the quality of their drinking water. This report outlines how
each of Canada’s provinces are dealing with the issue of forest harvesting
and drinking water quality.
