Objective
To develop an ecological demonstration tour of the western Newfoundland balsam fir ecosystem, in order to generate public awareness and interest in the Western Newfoundland Model Forest program, its objectives and goals.

Description
The balsam fir ecology bus tour, through a number of guided tour stops, demonstrates the various key ecological, economic, and social processes and indicators within the Western Newfoundland Model Forest. The tour introduces participants to the diverse ecosystem within the balsam fir forest, and demonstrates a range of forest management techniques and practices necessary in maintaining such a diverse landbase. The tour not only explores and identifies the successional stages of forest development, but present and traditional logging practices, wildlife habitat, insect damage, silviculture management, and native plants and insects. The tour is designed to promote active learning of the western Newfoundland balsam fir ecosystem, general forest issues, and the Western Newfoundland Model Forest program.
