Western Newfoundland Model Forest
May 1994 - March 1998 (ongoing)

Keywords
public participation, public involvement, IRM

Objective
To promote public awareness and involvement in the Western Newfoundland Model Forest and its integrated resource management planning process.

Description
Public participation in integrated resource management is necessary to ensure that the public’s values and concerns are made known to the decision-makers and that all relevant issues are considered. The public awareness and involvement effort in the Western Newfoundland Model Forest will focus on developing a guide for public involvement in the integrated resource management planning process. It will increase public awareness and understanding of forest issues in an attempt to incorporate active involvement in forest management planning and decision-making processes, and ensure the agencies involved in these processes are aware of public concerns.
