Objective
An environmental education competition, for youths, to raise awareness of environmental issues through hands on learning and outdoor competitions.

Description
The focus of the Envirothon Program is to encourage young people to learn more about the environment in and out of the classroom in five subject areas: Aquatics, Soils and Land Use, Forestry, and Wildlife, and a theme topic that changes annually. Envirothon is open to young people enrolled in Levels 1, 2, and 3, and youth of eligible age who are members of community youth groups with an environmental focus. Winners of the provincial competition are eligible to compete in the national Canon Envirothon.

Western Newfoundland Model Forest has sponsored the regional and provincial competition, as well as, the international Envirothon team from Newfoundland and Labrador since 2001. Teams have participated in international competitions in Missouri, Maryland and Winnipeg. The level of participation in this province has been steadily increasing.
