Summer Institute
in Environmental Education

Summer Institute in Environmental Education is a five-day learning experience for Kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers in all disciplines. A small group of participants works together and in the company of prominent resource people to receive advanced training in topics related to sustainable development, resource management and environmental education.

Three main topic areas are covered:

• Outdoor education, leading to a better understanding of forests, geology and wildlife
• Information and discussion about current issues related to ecosystem management and sustainable forest management
• Tools to incorporate this material into the curriculum and to make environmental education come to life in the classroom

Our theme is Exploring the Boreal Forest. What does the forest mean to you? Is it a source of firewood, pulpwood and lumber? A habitat for wildlife, a playground for outdoor enthusiasts, or a living laboratory of plant life?

These and other values of The Boreal Forest are explored during Summer Institute from our base at Killdevil Camp and Convention Centre in Gros Morne National Park.

A registration fee of $250 includes accommodations, meals, and some travel assistance.
