Envirothon 2008

Competition Rules

· Students enrolled in Levels 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent home school ranking are eligible to compete. Students from a school's junior high feeder school may be permitted to be a team member.

· Each team will consist of five students from the same school, or five students of eligible age from the same youth organization. Schools may enter more than one team as long as the entry fee is paid for each team. If a team member is unable to participate in the competition, another student from that school may fill in.

· The use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs during Envirothon is STRICTLY PROHIBITED at all times and will result in IMMEDIATE EXPULSION of the ENTIRE TEAM from the competition. Teachers/coaches are responsible for the behaviour of their teams.

· All teams/teachers must be present for registration by 9 a.m. on the first day of competition.

· Teams not appearing at their field station at their scheduled time will receive a zero for that particular station.

· All field testing stations are scored out of 100, for a total eligible score of 500 in the field component.

· Teams must complete the field testing with no contact from teachers/advisors/parents/other.

· Electronic equipment of any kind will not be permitted during field testing or sequestering.

· Teachers/advisors/parents/other will not be permitted to be in contact with teams during sequestering. Any contact with students must be through a NL Envirothon Committee representative.

· NL Envirothon T-shirts must be worn on Saturday. T-shirts will be provided upon registration.

· Oral presentations will be scored out of 200.

· Teachers/advisors/parents will be allowed to view the presentation of the team with which they are associated, with the team’s consent.

· All decisions of the judges are final. Field test scores (possible 500) will be added to oral presentation scores (possible 200) to determine final score (out of 700).

· In the event of a tie in the final score, the tied team with the highest oral presentation score will be named the first-place finisher.

· Field test and presentation scores will be made available to teachers at the conclusion of event, but tests will not be returned or available for review.

· Photos and videos taken by NL Envirothon committee members may be used for promotion purposes.

· All teams are expected to behave in a manner that respects teachers, judges and all Envirothon personnel. REMEMBER, this is a school event. You are representing your school and your behavior should reflect that.

· Have fun and relax! This is a competition and it can be stressful on students, but the main goal is to have fun! If you don’t know an answer, talk it over with your teammates and try your best. Your main goals for this competition are to have fun learning and meeting new people.
